MHS Oregon Trivia Contest

MHS started an Oregon Trivia Contest in January. Here are the questions, answers, and winners:

Week 8: March 16-20

Question: Who was the first European to enter Central Oregon?  Hint:  The Crooked River's high bridge wayside is named for him.

Answer: The first European to enter Central Oregon was Peter Skene Ogden in the fall of 1825.  He was the leader of a party of fur trappers employed by the Hudson Bay Company.

Question: Who is the most famous Native American in Oregon History?

Answer: The most famous Native American in Oregon history is Chief Joseph of the Wallowa band of the Nez Perce.  The 1400 mile military retreat he led has been called the most brilliant in US history.
