JCLC Spring Camp

Camp Rilea

Astoria, OR

Formation

Each year the Cascade League JROTC programs are offered an annual Spring Camp hosted by the Army National Guard at Camp Rilea in Astoria, OR. Cadets from all over the Cascades are invited to experience many activities the National Guard sets up over the course of five days. The activities tend to change from year to year. This year (2010) they consisted of:

**Drown-proofing (held at the Astoria Aquatic Center and hosted by the Coast Guard)
**Land navigation
**Obstacle course
**Rappelling from a 60-foot tower
**Self defense class
**High-action training consisting of Pugil Pit challenges and the Halo Jump (much like a baby's jumper in adult size)

Along with the day-to-day training previously listed, each day offered helicopter rides also hosted by the Coast Guard and evening activities such as movies, night land navigation and free swim. This year over half the cadets who attended camp had the opportunity to ride on the helicopter. We hope to continue to have the privilege of providing the cadets with the opportunity to experience stepping out of their safe zone and "Being the Bacon."
