NASCAR Busch series brings local girl's coloring skills to the track
Maina Sansom wins color design for #99 Dream Machine

Marina Sansom, a local fourth grader, entered a coloring contest at the end of 2006.

The coloring contest winner's design was to be featured on the # 99 Dream Machine, which is races in the Busch series. David Reutimann is the driver.

When Marina Sansom heard she had won the contest, “[She] was incredibly excited, but had a hard time truly grasping what she had won until she went on the trip to Talladega ,” stated her mother, Jill Sansom.

For the revealing of the car, the Samson family attended the Talladega NASCAR race on April 28 and 29 in Alabama . “It was really exciting to see [the car] for real! Marina was quite sad when the car was involved in a crash near the end of the race,” Jill Sansom told The White Buffalo .

The April 28 race is the only race that featured Marina Sansom‘s design. The hood of the car, which has her name on it, might be flown to the Madras Aaron's store for display.

“[ Marina ] thought it was really cool to meet [the driver] and his daughter. He was really nice to her and the rest of the family. He signed anything that we gave him to sign in the few minutes that we were with him. He asked her and her brother, Gabriel, to sign the hood of the car,” said Jill Sansom.

Jill Sansom said the experience overall was, “Really fun! The whole family was treated like royalty with limo rides and golf cart rides.”

Marina Sansom said it would have been nice to have the limo for the Sunday's race as well.

“Marina thought it was really cool to get up on stage and shake all the drivers' hands. Marina said that each driver had something different to say when they shook her hand. One said, “Hello, good day, nice weather,” [and] she though that was pretty funny!”, commented Jill Sansom.
